Mumbai-based digital products company JetSynthesys today announced the acquisition of esports firm Skyesports for an undisclosed sum.
Following the deal, Jetsynthesys will be establishing new entity called 'Jet Skyesports Gaming Pvt. Ltd.' with an aim to to build esports at the grassroot level in India ahead of the Asian Games 2022, which will include esports as a medal event for the first time in the history of all such tournaments, the company said in a release.
On the other hand, the deal will also help Skyesports to strengthen its presence across the country and also sets the stage for its expansion from India to South Asia, helping the brand create more IPs and strengthen its team, the company added.
The announcement comes two weeks after it raised $2 million from the former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Besides this, Adar Poonawalla, Kris Gopalakrishnan, and the multi-billion-dollar family offices of the promoters of Thermax, Triveni Group, Yohan Poonawalla Group, and DSP Group, are also shareholders in the company.
The company further said that Skyesports has expanded its operations significantly in the country and has the most number of tournament IPs in India with a combined total viewership of over 100 million across all major platforms --- Facebook, YouTube, and Loco.
Founded in November 2018, Skyesports is one India's leading esports company. The firm has organized various gaming tournaments such as Skyesports Championship, Skyesports League, Skyesports GrandSlam.
Speaking on the development, Rajan Navani, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, JetSynthesys said:
