Ambani's JioCinema announces new ad-free premium plan for Rs 29 a month

In a bold move to disrupt the Indian streaming market, JioCinema, part of Mukesh Ambani’s Viacom18, has announced a significant reduction in subscription fees for its premium content. 

Starting immediately, users can enjoy Hollywood movies, TV shows, and more for just one rupee per day, or Rs 29 per month. The pricing strategy aims to compete directly with major global streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+Hotstar.

What does the new subscription plan include?

JioCinema’s revamped subscription model introduces two main plans: a single-device plan for ₹29 per month and a 'Family' plan at ₹89 per month, allowing streaming on four devices simultaneously.


Both plans offer ad-free content in 4K quality and are available in five languages. Existing premium members will automatically be upgraded to the 'Family' plan without additional charges, enhancing their viewing experience at no extra cost.

Access to premium global content

Subscribers will have access to an extensive range of content through partnerships with major global studios like Peacock, HBO, Paramount, and Warner Bros Discovery.

This includes the latest global series and movie premieres, and popular titles such as "Game Of Thrones," "House Of The Dragon," and films like "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie." Additionally, content from Indian channels like Colors and Nickelodeon will be available early, even before they air on TV.

IPL and other content remain free

Despite the introduction of low-cost premium plans, JioCinema will continue to offer the Indian Premier League (IPL) and a vast selection of other entertainment content for free as part of its ad-supported model.

The approach ensures that essential sports entertainment remains accessible to a broader audience, reinforcing JioCinema's competitive edge in the market.
