Indian logistics company DTDC Express Ltd has introduced drone-based deliveries. The company has partnered with drone tech startup Skye Air Mobility to launch a drone delivery service that will enhance efficiency and sustainability in last-mile logistics.

Executes first successful drone delivery
The inaugural drone delivery was executed from Bilaspur to Gurgaon sector 92, covering a distance of 7.5 km in just 3-4 minutes, compared to the usual 15 minutes by road.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with DTDC on its 35th Foundation Day, leveraging our advanced drone delivery infrastructure to redefine last-mile deliveries in urban areas. Each drone delivery can save over 520 grams of CO2 emissions compared to traditional methods," said Ankit Kumar, Founder & CEO of Skye Air.
Environmental and operational benefits
The new drone service is poised to bring numerous benefits. By reducing the reliance on road transport, it aims to cut carbon emissions and alleviate traffic congestion, contributing to more eco-friendly logistics.
The agile nature of drone deliveries promises faster and more reliable service, significantly enhancing DTDC’s already extensive network, which includes over 16,000 channel partners and covers nearly 96% of the Indian population.
Future expansion plans
Following the success in Gurgaon, DTDC plans to extend the drone delivery service to other strategic locations across India.
The next phase will focus on identifying regions where drone deliveries can make the most significant impact. The expansion is part of DTDC’s broader strategy to embrace digital advancements and adapt to changing consumer behaviours.
