Maharashtra EV Policy 2025

The Maharashtra government has approved a new Electric Vehicle Policy for 2025, which aims to accelerate the adoption of EVs across the state through a combination of financial incentives and infrastructure support.

According to media reports, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who chaired the state cabinet meeting that cleared the policy, said the initiative is part of a long-term plan to curb air pollution and support sustainable transportation.

Policy to remain in effect until 2030

The policy, which will remain in effect until 2030, sets aside Rs 1,993 crore for various schemes, including subsidies for electric vehicle purchases and the development of a robust charging network. According to the state government, charging stations will be installed every 25 kilometres along national highways to make long-distance EV travel more convenient.

Under the Clean Mobility Transition Model outlined in the policy, electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, private four-wheelers, and buses operated by the state transport corporation and civic bodies will receive a 10% subsidy on their purchase price. Goods-carrying electric three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and tractors will be eligible for an even higher subsidy of 15%. Additionally, registration fees will be completely waived for all electric vehicles under the new framework.

To further incentivise EV adoption, toll exemptions have been introduced for select routes. Full toll waivers will be offered to four-wheeler electric vehicles and buses on key expressways such as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Atal Setu, and the Samruddhi Mahamarg. On other state and national highways, EVs will receive a 50% toll concession.

The policy is being seen as a crucial move to make EVs more accessible and affordable for consumers, while also encouraging manufacturers to expand operations in Maharashtra. With strong fiscal backing and a clear roadmap through 2030, the state is positioning itself as a national leader in clean mobility.
