US-based payment card services giant Mastercard has recently opened a state-of-the-art tech hub in Pune to fuel its growth in the Indian market.
The Pune facility, which spans nearly half a million square meters, is one of Mastercard’s largest tech centres globally.
With this launch, Pune joins an exclusive list of Mastercard’s global tech hubs, which include locations in Arlington, Dublin, New York, St. Louis, Sydney, and Vancouver.
Housing over 6,000 employees
The new hub, which is located at Bluegrass Business Park in Yerwada, will house over 6,000 technologists, engineers, and specialists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, ranging from software development to finance, data architecture to cybersecurity, and beyond.
This will make it Mastercard’s largest workforce in a single city globally.
The company believes that the Pune Tech Hub will support its vital global operations across payment safety, cybersecurity, fraud detection, and digital identity.
Supporting the "Viksit Bharat" vision
The launch of Mastercard’s new campus aligns with the goals of the Indian government’s 'Viksit Bharat' vision, which aims to transform India into a fully developed, technologically advanced economy by 2047.
The company said that the Pune workforce is already playing a key role in delivering technological solutions for India’s domestic market.
Notable initiatives include the financial inclusion platform Community Pass; the global pilot of the Payment Passkey Service in India, which integrates biometrics and tokenization for secure online checkout; and its role as an authorized Authentication Service Agency, enabling banking and government partners to provide Aadhaar-based services and benefits.
Notably, the new Pune Tech Hub augments Mastercard’s growing presence in India, which spans offices in Gurugram, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Vadodara.
