Indian electric vehicles company Altigreen Propulsion Labs today said it has partnered with MathWorks, the developer of mathematical computing software, to boost the development of Altigreen’s flagship electric three-wheelers, called the NEEV.
The collaboration seeks to navigate through India's bustling three-wheeler market, which currently sees over 6 million petrol and diesel-powered vehicles on the roads.
Altgreen developing eco-friendly electric vehicle
Founded in 2013, Bengaluru-based Altigreen focuses on creating electric vehicles specifically for the last-mile transportation segment in India, ensuring they are suitable for Indian roads and driving behaviours.
The company, which has a wide-reaching patent portfolio and recently raised Rs 300 crore in investment, has a presence across India.
Altigreen, which has been actively involved in the electric three-wheeler sector in India, designs its vehicles with a focus on affordability and accessibility for small business owners and independent drivers among others. The NEEV has been recognized for its eco-friendly and efficient performance in the market.
"Using MATLAB and Simulink enabled our teams to rapidly test ideas and iterate on new design enhancements and features. Our proactive approach of investing in simulation and clean technologies, such as electric powertrains, helped the company reduce emissions and noise and create electric three-wheelers that outperform their fossil fuel counterparts in terms of torque, power, and range," said Amitabh Saran, founder and CEO of Altigreen.
What is the MathWorks Startup Program?
The partnership with MathWorks began when Altigreen joined the MathWorks Startup Program.
According to the company's statement, The program provides early-stage startups with access to software and applications crucial for developing prototypes and scaling production, along with offering technical mentoring and support.
Altigreen, now a graduate of the program, employs Model-Based Design to streamline development time and integrate simulations with actual test data to enhance the design process.
"Altigreen’s participation in the MathWorks Startup program allowed it to gain early access to our industry- standard tools and enabled the company to accelerate its product development time and scale commercially,” said Sunil Motwani, Country Manager, Sales & Service.
“Designing a new drivetrain from scratch can take two years, but the Altigreen team’s usage of Model-Based Design enabled them to complete their last drivetrain redesign in under 13 months," Motwani added.
