Meta hires Arun Srinivas as MD and Head of India operations

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Arun Srinivas

Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta has appointed Arun Srinivas as the managing director and head for Meta in India, a significant leadership move in what remains the company’s largest user market globally.

The development comes on the heels of current India head Sandhya Devanathan’s elevation to a broader role overseeing operations across both India and Southeast Asia.

Srinivas, who currently heads Meta’s Ads Business in India, will assume the new role effective July 1 and will report to Devanathan. As part of his new and expanded role, Srinivas will focus on bringing the organization’s business, innovation, and revenue priorities together to serve partners and clients.

He will spearhead the India charter and strengthen the strategic relationships with the country’s leading brands, advertisers, developers and partners to drive growth for India as a market.

“Meta in India is leading the way in AI adoption, WhatsApp, and Reels, and Arun’s impressive track record of building high-performing teams, driving product innovation, and fostering strong partnerships makes him the ideal leader to drive Meta’s continued investment in the country. He will continue to work closely with me as we scale the business in India,” said Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President (India and South East Asia), Meta.

Srinivas' role at Meta

Srinivas joined Meta in 2020 as Head of the Global Business Group for India, managing key client relationships across sectors. He was later promoted to lead the ads business in 2022. Before joining Meta, Srinivas held senior roles at Ola, Reebok, Hindustan Unilever, and WestBridge Capital. A graduate of IIM Calcutta, he brings nearly 30 years of experience in consumer and enterprise leadership.

India, with over a billion users across Meta’s platforms—Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—remains one of the company’s most strategically important regions. It is also the largest user base globally for Meta AI and a leading geography for developer adoption of its Llama language models.

Meta’s India business saw strong financial performance in fiscal 2024. Net profit rose 43% year-on-year to Rs 504.93 crore, while revenue from operations increased 9.3% to Rs 3,034.8 crore. Gross advertising revenue touched Rs 22,730.7 crore, up from Rs 18,308 crore in FY23.
