On July 14th Tuesday, Mumbai police have busted an international social media racket that was involved in the creation of fake social media profiles and related business activities. Looking to this matter, the Police commissioner Param Bir Singh said: "one accused has been nabbed which was involved in this racket and we are currently looking more into this situation.

Furthermore, Investigation against this racket reveals that the accused is a part of this global fraud racket helping them to create millions of fake social media identities on different platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Tinder, etc.

Looking at this fraud and malfunction activities, Singh has announced the formation of a special investigation team of CIU (Crime Intelligence Unit) and cyber cell under Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection), Nandkumar Thakur, to look more into fraudulent and malfunction activities that are being practiced on social media.

This will be the first-ever SIT that will investigate the illegal aspects that are being practiced on social media marketing businesses that are violating the Indian IT Act. said, Singh.

Following the matter, The police chief said that the accused has created over half a million fake followers account for 176 profiles to project them as a social media influencer.

Moreover, Singh directed the crime branch to investigate and joint commissioner of police V.K. Choubey ordered the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) to take up the inquiry.

After the inquiry, It was revealed that this racket was manipulating the existing systems of respective social media networks. These racketeers introduced such fake followers and over 100+ portals that are reportedly involved in these frauds all over India. The arrested accused worked for one such portal, www.followerskart.com, according to the police investigation.

Police said that this is the first time that such a global fraud racket has been busted in the country. Moreover, These fake identities were used to create fake news rumors, and panic in the society.

The CIU investigation also found that more than 100+ such social media marketing portals which provide fake followers through fake identities or bots which are being controlled from the different regions from the world.

Such portals have been identified and action against them has been initiated. Users are pleased to be aware of these fake portals and fake identities and not to fall into this trap. said, Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU)
