An employee has alleged that their company’s CEO intervened to have an external job offer revoked after the employee resigned, leaving them without an alternative role and financially constrained, according to a post shared on Reddit’s r/IndianWorkplace forum.
In the post, the employee said they resigned after securing an offer from another firm and were given two options by HR: serve a two-month notice period or opt for a buyout. The employee chose the buyout decision.
According to the post, the HR department escalated the matter to the CEO, who was not in office at the time. Later, the CEO allegedly contacted the other company’s CEO, leading to the withdrawal of the external job offer without the employee’s knowledge or consent.
"Instead of speaking to me, the CEO called the other company’s CEO and got my offer revoked, without my consent or knowledge," the post read.
The employee said they were later informed by the new employer’s HR team that the offer had been revoked due to intervention by their current company’s CEO.
The following day, HR at the existing company initially denied the allegation before the CEO allegedly contacted the employee, asking the employee to stay and praising their work.
The post further claims that after the CEO returned to office, communication became inconsistent, and the employee was offered compensation to remain with the company, a promise that was later withdrawn, citing financial constraints.
"Once she was back, she started ignoring me and delaying clarity. When I pushed again, she held a long meeting, emotionally manipulated me, and promised: “Ask any amount. We’ll pay you if you stay."
"I trusted her. After 15 days, the story changed again: “Company finances are bad. We can’t pay what we promised...By then, my external offer was already gone. My finances are tight. I have no backup offer. I can’t afford to resign again," the employee wrote.
The employee said they remain with the company due to the absence of another job offer and limited financial options.
"So I’m still here — not because I want to be, but because I was left cornered, unpaid, and stuck," the post added.

Netizens reaction
The post prompted a wave of reactions from other users, many of whom expressed concern over the alleged conduct of both companies’ leadership.
Several users questioned how the employee’s current employer became aware of the new job offer and advised others to avoid disclosing details of future employment until after formally exiting a company.
"How did they know about your new company? Always say you are moving to Dubai while resigning from now on. All the best," a user wrote. "That's why you never reveal your new company when you leave," another said.
"Never, I repeat never. Never disclose the details of an offer, such as the organisation’s name, to anyone in your current company. Once you join the new organisation, only then—after a buffer period of around a month—should you update it on social media like LinkedIn," a third suggested.
The employee later provided further clarification, stating, "I was asked by my new company’s CEO to let my current employer know that I am joining his company, as they are friends."
