Namma Yatri, an open-source auto-hailing app, has marked its entry into Chennai in partnership with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

The entry comes after its recent launch in Delhi and its established presence in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kochi, and Kolkata.

Namma Yatri aims to revolutionize urban mobility by onboarding over 1 lakh drivers in Chennai within the next six months. Notably, It has already registered over 10,000 drivers in the city.

Operating in a zero-commission model

Unlike Ola and Uber, which operate on a commission-based model, Namma Yatri operates on a zero-commission model.

The approach is designed to empower drivers with higher earnings and autonomy. The app, which is already operational in several cities, has been a hit among drivers, enabling them to earn over Rs 360 crore without any commission.

Localized approach

Namma Yatri's launch in Chennai is not just about expansion but also about customization. The company has customised the driver app in Tamil, catering specifically to the local demographic.

The app focuses on enhancing the user booking experience to prominent Chennai locations like Valluvar Kottam, Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Birla Planetarium, and others.

Future expansion

Namma Yatri is not just stopping at Chennai. The company is also preparing for a launch in Hyderabad. Additionally, It has also launched initiatives like 'Purple Rides' for customers with disabilities.

At present, Namma Yatri has 1.8 lakh drivers and more than 45 lakh riders on its platform.
