Namma Yatri launches Scholarship Program

Namma Yatri, an open mobility app, has launched a new initiative to support the education of auto and cab drivers' children in Bengaluru and Chennai.

The scholarship program, named "Namma Yatri Rising Stars," aims to provide financial assistance to 10th and 12th-grade students.

The initiative recognizes their academic achievements and helps them pursue higher education, addressing financial barriers that might hinder their progress.

Beneficiaries and impact

The Namma Yatri Rising Stars program plans to uplift over 500 students annually. Bhavana, the daughter of Siddegowda, an auto driver for Namma Yatri in Bengaluru, is one such beneficiary.

Bhavana achieved a perfect score of 625/625 in her SSLC exam. Despite facing financial hardships, she aspires to become an IAS officer. These scholarships alleviate the financial burden on students like Bhavana, opening doors to brighter futures.

Award events in Bengaluru and Chennai

Scholarships were awarded at events held in both Bengaluru and Chennai. The Bengaluru event featured students sharing their aspirations and participating in cultural programs.

The Chennai event was presided over by T. Abraham IAS, Commissioner of Technical Education, and M. Arun Prakash, Founder & CEO of Guvi, along with leaders of driver unions.

The students were selected through a rigorous screening process to ensure that only the most deserving candidates received the scholarships.

N Chandrabose, an auto driver from Rajapalayam, shared his gratitude, stating, "This scholarship has been a blessing for my family. Despite being a school topper in 10th, I had to drop out of school and become an autorickshaw driver due to financial constraints. I did not want my son to go through a similar situation. He can now concentrate on his studies and live his dream. Namma Yatri’s support means a lot to us."

His son, C Parthasarathy, who got into IIT, added, "I am extremely happy to receive this scholarship. It allows me to pursue my dreams without worrying about the financial burden. Knowing that Namma Yatri supports hardworking and aspirational students like me is truly motivating."

Offering zero-commission rides

Namma Yatri sets itself apart from other ride-hailing services by prioritizing the welfare of its drivers. This includes initiatives like zero-commission rides, awareness of government welfare schemes, financial education, the Mahila Shakti Program for empowering women drivers, flexible working hours, and now, educational scholarships for their children.

Looking ahead, Namma Yatri plans to expand the scholarship program to more cities and develop additional welfare schemes for the betterment of drivers and their families. The company also looks to partner with government bodies, non-profit organizations, and CSR wings of corporations to scale this program and benefit a larger number of students.
