Ola Electric's Roadster X
Ola Electric has once again delayed the delivery timeline for its much-anticipated Roadster X motorcycle, raising fresh questions around the company's operational readiness and the accuracy of its reported sales figures.
In a late-night stock exchange filing on April 30, the Bhavish Aggarwal-led electric vehicle maker announced that deliveries of the Roadster X would now begin in May 2025. This marks the second postponement in as many months, following an earlier commitment to commence deliveries in April.
“With reference to our earlier intimation dated April 11, 2025, we wish to inform that the deliveries of the Roadster X motorcycle will now commence in May 2025,” read the filing.
The company first unveiled the Roadster X—touted as the fastest electric motorcycle in its segment—on February 5, with plans to begin deliveries by mid-March. That timeline was quietly pushed back after it emerged, according to reporting by NDTV Profit, that the motorcycle had not even completed the homologation process just weeks before its original delivery date.
Then, on April 11, Ola claimed that the first batch of Roadster X units had rolled off its Futurefactory assembly line in Tamil Nadu. But that milestone has yet to translate into bikes reaching customers. With the latest deferral, the earliest deliveries are now expected in May, although no specific date has been provided.
Inclusion of pre-bookings in sales disclosures
Despite the repeated delays, Ola Electric has already included pre-bookings for the Roadster X in its monthly sales disclosures. In a letter to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways dated March 21, the company said it had counted 1,395 Roadster X “confirmed orders” in its February sales data—even though the product had not been delivered or registered with transport authorities.
This inclusion of undelivered vehicles in sales data has drawn the attention of multiple government bodies, including the Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
On April 29, CNBC reported that the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is also investigating the company for alleged irregularities in disclosure practices, focusing on potential mismatches between Ola’s claimed sales volumes and actual vehicle registration records.
The scrutiny comes as Ola Electric aims to solidify its standing in India’s competitive EV landscape. In its April 8 filing, the company defended its February numbers, arguing that its sales reports were based on paid, confirmed orders rather than symbolic or token-based bookings. But with the Roadster X still not on the road, those assurances are now under greater scrutiny.
While the company says Roadster X promises impressive specifications across three battery configurations—2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh, priced between Rs 84,999 and Rs 1,14,999—the recurring delivery delays risk undercutting consumer confidence and investor trust at a sensitive juncture for the company.
