The launch marks the company’s first major step beyond electric mobility, leveraging its in-house 4680 Bharat Cell technology and Gigafactory production capabilities in Tamil Nadu. With this, Ola expects its BESS consumption to scale up to 5 GWh annually over the next few years.

Chairman and managing director Bhavish Aggarwal said the company has built world-class battery and cell technology for electric mobility and is now extending that innovation to homes to help users store and use clean energy intelligently. He said the country faces not a shortage of energy but an opportunity in energy storage, one that can drive self-reliance.

Product features and specifications

Ola Shakti is the first fully indigenous residential BESS in India, designed, engineered, and manufactured locally using the company’s 4680 Bharat Cells. The system features automotive-grade safety, up to 98% efficiency, and zero maintenance costs.

Unlike conventional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, the device offers instant (0 ms) power changeover, operates within a 110V-290V input range to protect household appliances, and is IP67-rated for resistance against dust, water, and monsoon conditions.

The modular design allows multi-directional stacking for easy scalability, while its compact form factor simplifies home installation and servicing. Charging times are as fast as two hours, and it can deliver up to 1.5 hours of backup on full load, powering high-demand appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication equipment.

Users can manage their Ola Shakti system through a smart interface that provides real-time control over energy usage and battery status, along with features such as time-of-day charge scheduling, intelligent backup prioritisation, remote diagnostics, OTA software updates, and energy-saving insights.

Pricing and availability

Ola Shakti is available at introductory prices in four configurations:

  • 1kW/1.5kWh – Rs 29,999

  • 1kW/3kWh – Rs 55,999

  • 3kW/5.2kWh – Rs 1,19,999

  • 6kW/9.1kWh – Rs 1,59,999

Reservations have opened with a token amount of Rs 999, and deliveries are scheduled to begin by Makar Sankranti 2026. The product can be purchased through Ola’s online platform and its nationwide network of over 4,000 stores.

Aggarwal noted that the Gigafactory will manufacture Shakti units without requiring additional capital expenditure, positioning it for rapid scale. He added that Ola’s energy storage systems could eventually extend beyond households to sectors such as agriculture, defence, and communications, contributing to India’s broader renewable-energy storage infrastructure.
