Ola Electric said it has received government certification for its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh), clearing the way for the company to begin deliveries of the model.
The certification has been granted under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989 by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT), Manesar, a government-authorised testing agency, the company informed stock exchanges.
With this approval, Ola Electric said the Roadster X+ becomes India's first electric motorcycle to be certified with a completely in-house developed battery pack built on its 4680 Bharat Cell technology.
The 9.1 kWh variant offers a claimed certified IDC range of up to 501 km per charge, positioning it as a long-range electric motorcycle aimed at reducing range anxiety and expanding EV adoption beyond metro markets into Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions, where charging infrastructure remains limited.
The certification followed a comprehensive vehicle-level validation programme mandated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for battery-operated vehicles in the electric two-wheeler category.
According to the company, the Roadster X+ underwent tests covering constructional and functional safety, range, gradeability, braking performance, noise, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Separately, the 9.1 kWh high-energy-density battery pack has also received certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under AIS-156 Amendment 4.
The battery pack cleared safety and durability tests, including water immersion, thermal runaway and fire safety assessments, along with vibration and mechanical shock tests. Ola Electric had earlier received ARAI certification for a lower 5.2 kWh battery pack configuration.
An Ola Electric spokesperson said the certification marked a key milestone in the company’s effort to build end-to-end electric vehicle technology in India. The spokesperson said the Roadster X+ combines long range with performance, safety and reliability, powered entirely by Ola’s own cell and battery technology, and described it as a defining step towards accelerating EV adoption in India’s motorcycle-dominated two-wheeler market.
The approval allows Ola Electric to extend the use of its in-house 4680 Bharat Cell platform across its broader two-wheeler portfolio, covering both electric scooters and motorcycles. The same cell architecture is also planned to underpin the company’s upcoming battery energy storage system, branded as Ola Shakti.
The certification comes at a challenging time for the Bhavish Aggarwal-led EV maker. Ola Electric recently received a sanction order from the Ministry of Heavy Industries for the release of incentives worth Rs 366.78 crore under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. However, the company has faced pressure through much of 2025 amid high losses, declining sales, and declining market share.
According to Vahan registration data as reported by multiple outlets, Ola Electric sold about 1.98 lakh electric vehicles in 2025 so far, a drop of around 51% from about 4.07 lakh units sold in 2024. Its market share has fallen to roughly 16.1% in 2025 from about 36.7% a year earlier.
Financially, the company reported a 15% reduction in consolidated net loss to Rs 418 crore in Q2 FY26, compared with Rs 495 crore in the same quarter last year. Revenue from operations, however, declined 43% year-on-year to Rs 690 crore from Rs 1,214 crore in Q2 FY25.
