Online upskilling platform Great Learning buys Northwest Executive Education

Bengaluru-based online upskilling platform Great Learning today announced it has acquired Singapore-based Northwest Executive Education for an undisclosed sum. However, as per several media reports, the acquisition was a $100 million cash and stock deal.

The development comes three months after it acquired Bengaluru-based recruitment platform Superset for an undisclosed sum. Post-acquisition, Northwest will continue to operate as an independent organization under the leadership of its co-founders, Mohit Jain, Tamhant Jain, and Maitreyi Singhvi.

Founded in 2015 by Mohit Jain and Tamhant Jain, Northwest Executive Education says it offers comprehensive programmes by top global educational institutions, from universities such as MIT, UC Berkeley, Yale, UCLA, University of Chicago, National University of Singapore, among others, and is expanding across US, Europe, Asia and Latin America. 

“We have built a strong global portfolio of programmes through our collaborations with some of the world’s best Universities. Being bootstrapped, we have always focused on building a reputation for high-quality learning experiences that have helped executives and professionals grow in their leadership journey and careers, leading to more than 100 CXO transitions for our alumni," the founders said.

With application-oriented learning and personalized coaching for participants, Northwest claims it has achieved a ~99% completion rate since inception. 

On the other hand, Great Learning offers programs in Data Science, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Digital Business. Since its inception, The edtech startup has expanded its offerings beyond the K-12 and test prep segment and has delivered over 85 million hours of impactful learning to four million learners from over 170 countries.

According to the company's statement, Northwest and Great Learning would leverage synergies to expand the portfolio of offerings and cater to learners across India, Asia, the United States, Latin America, and Europe in blended and online learning formats.

In July 2021, Great Learning was acquired by Byju Raveendran-led Byju's for an undisclosed sum. Hari Krishnan Nair, Arjun Nair, and Mohan Lakhamraju co-founded Great Learning in 2013.

Commenting on the deal, Mohan Lakhamraju, Founder & CEO of Great Learning said, “Northwest complements the strengths of Great Learning, with a strong and expanding portfolio of programs from global top tier universities. Northwest will accelerate Great Learning’s efforts to provide learners across the globe with best-in-class learning opportunities from the world’s top Universities."
