OTT Platforms adopts self regulation code: IAMAI

Online OTT (over-the-top) platforms Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Hotstar, and 12 others have adopted the self-regulation code IAMAI (Internet & Mobile Association). said, IMAI in a statement.

The Internet & Mobile Association (IAMAI) of India is a not-for-profit industry body registered under the societies act, 1896.

On Friday, IAMAI said, These OTT platforms have adopted the 'Universal Self Regulation Code for OCCPs', under which the platforms will set up structured grievance redressal and escalation mechanism for the platform users.

According to the reports, The code, effective from the 15th August, allow platforms who adopted self-regulation code to comply with all the guidelines in a time-bound manner.

Further, Each signatory to the code has agreed to appoint an external advisor as part of the grievance redressal mechanism within 60 days from September 4, the statement said.

"The goal of this industry-wide effort is to empower consumers with information and tools to assist them in making an informed choice with regard to viewing decisions for them and their families, while at the same time, nurturing creativity and providing creators the freedom to tell the finest stories," IAMAI said.

Moreover, India is to be the fastest-growing market for OTT (over-the-top) platforms in India. said, IAMAI.

"Most of the major streaming services have adopted the Code and we look forward to others joining," said, Tarun Katial, Chair of Digital Entertainment Committee at IAMAI

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, these platforms witnessed huge growth on their platform subscribers. IAMAI officials said in order to give subscribers more choice and preference over the content, The code includes a framework for age and content classification as well as access controls.
