Indian fintech giant Paytm has launched two new soundboxes designed to enhance the transaction experience for merchants across the country.
These devices, which are made in its Noida facility, aim to cater specifically to the needs of the diverse Indian merchant community by supporting multiple languages and offering robust features such as 4G connectivity and long battery life.
Features and design
The new Paytm soundboxes boast several key features that make them ideal for the bustling and varied environments in which they operate. With powerful speakers and clear audio output, they ensure that payment confirmations can be heard over high-noise conditions typical of many Indian marketplaces.
These devices are designed to last with a battery life of up to 10 days and are equipped with 4G network connectivity for fast and reliable service. It also supports notifications in 11 languages, including English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bangla, Odia, Marathi, Punjabi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada.
Benefits for small merchants
One of the standout features of the new soundboxes is the integration of the Rupay Credit Card on UPI, which allows merchants to process these transactions with zero merchant discount rate (MDR) for amounts under Rs 2,000.
The initiative is expected to boost profitability for small-scale merchants and street vendors by reducing the transaction costs associated with digital payments.
