Rapido, a ride-hailing startup that battles with Ola and Uber, has introduced a software-as-a-service (SaaS) based model for auto drivers, marking a shift from its traditional commission-based aggregator model.

Rapido said the new model promises a lifetime of zero commission for auto drivers, who will instead pay a daily login fee ranging from Rs 9 to Rs 29, allowing them to undertake unlimited rides based on demand.

Empowering auto drivers

According to Rapido, the new model aims to empower auto drivers by offering them a transparent and inclusive revenue model.

Pavan Guntupalli, co-founder of Rapido, highlighted the company's commitment to maximizing earnings for their "Auto Captains," stating, "We are excited to integrate the SaaS model to Rapido Autos. Nationwide, we have enabled Auto Captains to earn over Rs 2,700 crore since inception."

The model is designed to remove the constraints of commissions, ensuring drivers receive a fair share of their daily activities, he said.

Expanding reach and services

Rapido's strategic move also includes expanding its services beyond bike taxis to include auto-rickshaws and rentals in select cities. With the launch of Rapido Cabs in December, using a similar SaaS model, the company now operates in over 35 cities.

The expansion aims to onboard offline auto drivers, tapping into the vast market of almost two crore auto rides happening daily across the country.
