Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's son Akash Ambani-led Reliance Jio has announced a significant tariff hike of 12% to 25% on its prepaid and postpaid plans.
This is the first increase in prices in two and a half years, with the new rates taking effect from July 3.
The most active plan, which offers 1.5 GB of data per day with a 28-day validity, saw the sharpest increase. Another popular plan with an 84-day validity saw a 20% rise from Rs 799.
The development comes a day after Jio acquired 14.4 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band for Rs 973 crore during the recent spectrum auction.
The auction concluded with telecom service providers purchasing over Rs 11,300 crore worth of radio waves.
