ShareChat, India’s largest homegrown social media company, has opened its first Southeast Asia AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore. This marks the company’s third international base after setting up operations in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The move is aimed at tapping into Singapore’s well-established pool of artificial intelligence professionals and robust tech infrastructure to enhance the user experience on ShareChat and Moj.
Focus on AI-driven solutions
ShareChat and Moj serve more than 325 million users in 15 Indian languages, making the need for advanced content discovery and recommendation systems a priority.
With the new AI Centre of Excellence, ShareChat will strengthen its AI and machine learning models, fine-tune content personalization for users, and optimize ad targeting.
The company also plans to maintain high standards for verifying the authenticity of user-generated content, ensuring a safe and engaging digital environment.
Growing team and collaboration
Leveraging Singapore’s thriving AI talent base, ShareChat intends to scale its local team to over 30 members in three years. The company has received support from EDBI, the strategic investment arm of the Singapore Economic Development Board, and plans to collaborate with government agencies and universities to share knowledge and develop talent.
Ankush Sachdeva, CEO and co-founder of ShareChat and Moj said the new centre would help accelerate the growth of India’s largest social media ecosystem by connecting with highly skilled AI professionals in Southeast Asia.
Leadership and expertise
The AI Centre of Excellence will be led by newly appointed Chief Technology Officer Nitin Jain, who has extensive experience from tech giants like Tokopedia, Gojek and TikTok. His role involves guiding the centre’s efforts to build a cutting-edge content recommendation system that tailors each user’s feed in real-time.
By coordinating with ShareChat’s teams in India, the U.S. and the U.K., Jain will focus on expanding the platform’s capabilities to meet the evolving demands of users around the world.
