Dr. Ajay Kumar, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1985 batch, has been appointed as a new Director on the Board of Sify Technologies Limited.
Dr. Kumar recently retired from his position as the Defence Secretary for the Government of India. Throughout his distinguished career, he has demonstrated extensive expertise in technology and policy, contributing significantly to various government initiatives.
Dr. Kumar's experience
During his tenure in government service, Dr. Kumar played a pivotal role in several key projects.
He spearheaded the defence startup ecosystem through the iDEX initiative from 2017 to 2022 and was instrumental in advancing the Digital India campaign, which included projects like Aadhaar and UPI between 2014 and 2017.
Additionally, he supported startups in the drone and space sectors from 2020 to 2021 and boosted the performance of Defence Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) from 2018 to 2022.

Dr. Kumar holds a B.Tech in electrical engineering, a Master's degree in applied economics, and a PhD in business administration from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management.
After retirement, he joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Departments of Management Sciences and economic sciences.
