The South Korean electronics company has started assembling laptops at its Greater Noida plant, where it already produces smartphones, feature phones, tablets and wearable devices, according to people familiar with the matter. The first batch of India-assembled laptops has reached the domestic market, with production expected to scale in the coming months.

The move signals a deepening commitment by Samsung to strengthen its presence in India, both as a manufacturing hub and as a consumer market. It comes after a meeting between Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s electronics and information technology minister, and Samsung’s Southwest Asia president and chief executive, JB Park, along with corporate vice president SP Chun. Mr. Vaishnaw praised the company’s efforts, saying Samsung continues to expand advanced technology manufacturing in “Bharat,” driven by local talent and innovation.

Samsung’s latest step aligns with the government’s policy push to reduce import dependence in electronics and build a robust export base.
