"Some are asking why I am doing all this. I should be happy so that my health is good. I am not expecting anything more." That's what Dr. Krishna Chivukula, Chairman of Indo Mim, said after donating Rs 228 crore to his alma mater, IIT Madras.

Notably, this is the single largest donation an Indian institute has ever received.

"I have donated Rs 228 crore to IIT Madras. No other university in the country has ever received such a large sum of money at once," Chivukula said.

"IIT Madras Dr. Krishna Chivukula donated ₹228 crores to his alma mater! Studying M. Tech for ₹12.50, he's giving back in a big way. A building at IIT Madras was named in his honour," the intitute wrote on X.

According to IIT Madras director V. Kamakoti, the donation will be used in various impactful ways, including supporting sportsmen under the Krishna Chivukula Sports Fellowship Programme. Additionally, the fund will assist students from developing countries, including African and SAARC countries.

Furthermore, the fund will support faculty members conducting research under 'high risk and high reward' programmes.

The institute has also named an academic block after Krishna Chivukula, who received an MTech in aerospace engineering from IIT-M in 1970.

Dr. Chivukula, who also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School (1980), established Shiva Technologies Inc. in 1990, specializing in advanced mass spectroscopy to certify ultra-high purity materials.

He also founded Indo MIM Technology in Bengaluru, which produces small metal and ceramic components with complex geometries in high volumes.

Chivukula said his BTech in IIT Bombay and MTech in IIT Madras helped him to get into Harvard University and become a successful person.
