In a bid to fortify its leadership team, Foodtech major Swiggy has appointed Ashwath Swaminathan as its Chief Growth & Marketing Officer (CGMO).
Swaminathan, a former Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) executive with nearly two decades of experience, will focus on Swiggy's growth and marketing strategies to engage new and returning customers, driving innovation, and exploring strategic collaborations to strengthen its market position.
The appointment comes at a crucial juncture as Swiggy prepares for its much-anticipated initial public offering (IPO).
Who is Ashwath Swaminathan?
Swaminathan's illustrious career at HUL saw him leading various categories, including oral care and deodorants, tea, coffee, makeup, skincare, and more. Known for his data-driven insights and strategic collaborations, he has been instrumental in strengthening consumer brands and propelling them to new heights.
He played a crucial role in developing the green tea category, transforming Lakme into a purpose-led brand, and significantly boosting HUL's oral care segment.
Sriharsha Majety, Group CEO of Swiggy, said, "Ashwath brings with him the right experience and a strong track record of strengthening consumer brands and growth marketing through data-driven insights and strategic collaborations. He joins Swiggy at a time of unprecedented opportunity, and we’re excited by the critical role he will play in bringing our mission of unparalleled convenience to life”.
Swiggy's strategic expansion and IPO preparations
Swiggy's leadership expansion includes not only Swaminathan but also other key appointments, such as Anirban Roy and Dipak Krishnamani, former Amazon executives, to lead Swiggy Instamart and Swiggy Mall, respectively.
These strategic hires are part of Swiggy's broader efforts to strengthen its market position, especially as it gears up for a public market listing later this year.
