IPO-bound food delivery giant Swiggy, which competes with Deepinder Goyal-led Zomato, has unveiled a new feature, ‘International Login,’ to allow users from around the world to order food and groceries and make reservations for loved ones in India.
The move aims to enhance cross-border connections and cater to the Indian diaspora.
The development comes shortly after the company hiked its platform fee to Rs 10 ahead of the Diwali festival. Notably, Zomato also hiked its platform fee by over 42% to Rs 10.
A convenient solution for NRIs across 27 countries
The ‘International Login’ feature is available for Swiggy users in 27 countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the UAE.
These users can now access the Swiggy app with their international phone numbers, allowing them to send meals, groceries, and more to family and friends back home.
The Bengaluru-based company's new service aims to help the Indian community abroad stay connected with loved ones, especially during major festivals and celebrations.
Multiple services accessible with international payment options
International users can take advantage of Swiggy’s services beyond food delivery. Through the app, they can order groceries via Swiggy’s quick commerce platform, Instamart and make restaurant reservations through Swiggy Dineout.
Payments can be made seamlessly using international credit cards and UPI options, providing a convenient and smooth experience for users sending essentials to loved ones.
Phani Kishan, Swiggy’s Co-founder and Chief Growth Officer, noted, “With 'International Login,' those living abroad can now surprise their loved ones on special occasions. This feature, long requested by our international users, is launching just in time for the festive season.”
Growing demand from overseas users
Swiggy’s new feature addresses a consistent demand from international users who have used Swiggy while visiting India or during stays abroad.
The company has positioned ‘International Login’ as a permanent feature, citing a high interest from people who want to support their families in India by sending groceries, meals, or even reserving tables for special occasions.
The move is especially appealing for those with ageing parents or less tech-savvy family members who may benefit from assistance in placing orders.
