Tamil Nadu has celebrated a significant achievement by registering over 10,000 startups with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), PTI reported, citing the the state government announced on Sunday.

This is largely attributed to StartupTN, the state’s dedicated agency for fostering innovation.

StartupTN has introduced various schemes and initiatives, including funding programs, mentorship opportunities, and incubation support, to nurture the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tamil Nadu.

Shivaraja Ramanathan, Mission Director and CEO of StartupTN, highlighted the impressive growth of the startup community. He noted that the number of DPIIT-registered startups has surged from 2,300 in March 2021 to over 10,000 today. He credited this exponential increase to the revival of StartupTN under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

"This exponential growth can be attributed to the revival of StartupTN under the leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Thiru. M.K. Stalin, focusing on supporting startups and fostering innovation," Ramanathan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Robust infrastructure for entrepreneurs

Ramanathan said that the state's startup ecosystem has been thriving, with 9 Regional Hubs and a Metro Hub in Chennai, providing a robust infrastructure for startups to grow.

"The state government's support has encouraged entrepreneurship among the youth, who are driving innovation and growth. With a strong backing from the state government, Tamil Nadu is poised to become a leading startup hub," he added.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is part of the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It plays a crucial role in promoting and regulating industrial and internal trade in India, including the registration and support of startups across the country.
