The government of Telangana is in discussions with billionaire Elon Musk-led Tesla to establish an electric car manufacturing plant in the state, ET reported citing Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu.

The state is actively pursuing this opportunity, showcasing its industry-friendly policies and world-class infrastructure to attract Tesla. Babu highlighted that since December 2023, the state has been focusing on attracting major investments from global companies, including Tesla.

Efforts to get a Tesla EV plant in the state 

Sridhar Babu detailed the comprehensive approach Telangana has adopted to secure Tesla's interest. He said the government has been studying and tracking Tesla's planned investment initiatives in India. Babu further said the state has been making all efforts to bring the EV giant to Telangana.

By showcasing the state as a beacon of industrial friendliness, Telangana promises a hassle-free permission system and world-class infrastructure. The environment is designed to support and encourage top-tier companies like Tesla to operate successfully within the state.

He mentioned that the state's policies are tailored to foster a business ecosystem that aligns with Tesla's forward-thinking and sustainability goals, aiming to make it an ideal location for the electric vehicle giant's new manufacturing hub.

Support from BRS leader K T Rama Rao

Notably, The state government's move has garnered support from prominent local figures, including BRS leader K T Rama Rao, who has publicly urged the Telangana government to "go all out" in its efforts. He urged the government to ensure that the Tesla team visits Hyderabad to understand the state's progressive industrial policies.

“Request Telangana government to go all out and do your best to bring them to our state. Make sure the Tesla team visits Hyderabad and understands the progressive industrial policies of Telangana,” Rama Rao had said.

Tesla to send team to India to scout locations

The development comes after a report claimed that Tesla will be sending its team to India this month to explore locations for a new electric vehicle (EV) plant, with an investment of between $2 billion and $3 billion.

The company will send a team to India by late April to study potential sites, focusing on states known for their automotive hubs, such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu.
