California-headquartered electronics brand TP-Link has signed a strategic partnership with Optiemus Electronics Ltd. to manufacture a range of networking and smart home products in India.
The move aligns with the “Make in India” initiative and adds momentum to the country’s drive to become a global manufacturing hub for telecom and electronics.
Producing up to 6 million devices annually
Beginning in February 2025, Optiemus’ state-of-the-art facility has the capacity to produce up to 6 million devices per year. It will make a range of key telecom and IoT products like GPON (ONT), home Wi-Fi routers, enterprise routers, cameras, modems and other networking equipment.
The made-in-India TP-Link units are expected to reach the domestic market by March 2025.
According to Optiemus, the partnership will bolster local supply chains and reduce dependency on imports, as the company looks to source power adapters, mechanical parts and other components from Indian vendors.
Notably, this partnership will create more employment opportunities in the country.
Leadership comments
“We are excited to partner with TP-Link, a globally leading name in networking devices, in line with our strategic vision of forging alliances with global leaders,” said Gururaj, managing director of Optiemus Electronics.
"Collaborating with such a renowned global IT brand will also enhance our potential to drive exports and deliver world-class products to international markets. By leveraging our advanced manufacturing capabilities in telecom and electronics products and TP-Link’s technological expertise, we aim to deliver world-class products while contributing to job creation, skill development, and the overall vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat," Gururaj added.
TP-Link executives noted that India’s rapid increase in data consumption and broadband adoption offers a prime opportunity for locally manufactured products.
“The partnership advances the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat while creating opportunities to explore global export markets, highlighting the competitiveness of products made in India,” said Sanjay Sehgal, director and COO of TP-Link. “It also strengthens the country’s reputation as a trusted manufacturing hub for the international market.”
