Edtech giant BYJU'S has reportedly appointed Arjun Mohan, the former CEO of upGrad, as the CEO of its international business.
According to a Moneycontrol report, Mohan, who had previously served as the Chief Business Officer at BYJU'S, joined upGrad in 2020 and now returns to the edtech major.
He initially began his journey with BYJU'S in 2008 as a consultant. However, in January 2023, he made his exit from upGrad. In his new role, Mohan will be entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing BYJU'S overseas operations, while Mrinal Mohit will continue to manage the company's operations in India, the report added.
The development comes soon after the Ministry of Corporate Affairs initiated an inspection of the company's accounts book. According to a Bloomberg report, media reports suggested that the ministry has requested a report within six weeks following an internal assessment of the edtech giant. The findings of the inspection will determine whether the matter should be escalated to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO).
Last month, three key board members, namely GV Ravishankar from Peak XV Partners, Russell Dreisenstock from Prosus, and Vivian Wu from Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, formally resigned from their positions at the edtech firm.
Furthermore, Deloitte Haskins & Sells, the statutory auditors for BYJU'S and Aakash, have officially stepped down due to the company's delay in filing its financial statements for the fiscal year 2022.
