As more senior citizens adopt digital tools, they are facing higher exposure to scams. Unfamiliarity with technology, combined with evolving fraud tactics, has left a growing number of people over 50 vulnerable to cybercrime, often resulting in financial loss and diminished trust in digital communication.
In response, Truecaller, a global communications platform, has partnered with Khyaal, an app for senior citizens, to provide caller identification technology alongside educational programs aimed at preventing scams.
Under the partnership, all Khyaal members will receive a 50% discount on Truecaller Premium membership, which offers advanced spam blocking and other safety features.
The companies will also jointly produce educational materials, including “New Scam Highlights” sessions that outline emerging fraud tactics, “Spot the Scam” workshops, guidelines for handling unknown calls, and testimonials from Khyaal members who have avoided scams. These will be delivered through digital and in-person formats, with access available on the Khyaal app.
The initiative will also be part of Khyaal’s “50Above50” event, which will feature awareness sessions and safety booths where seniors can receive practical advice on digital security. While the free version of Truecaller remains available, the companies said the Premium subscription provides additional features that may help seniors protect against unwanted or fraudulent calls.
"The digital age holds tremendous promise for our seniors—offering connection, convenience, and community. But it also brings new threats they’re often unprepared for," said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Global CEO, Truecaller.
"We’ve heard far too many heartbreaking stories of older individuals duped by scams. Our partnership with Khyaal is a meaningful step toward equipping them with the knowledge and tools to navigate this landscape safely."
Hemanshu Jain, founder and CEO of Khyaal, said: “The statistics are deeply concerning: seniors are losing their hard-earned savings to increasingly sophisticated scammers who exploit their trust and unfamiliarity with digital fraud tactics. The emotional toll of falling victim to such scams can be devastating, often leading to anxiety and a loss of confidence in using digital tools. At Khyaal, we’ve long recognised this silent crisis and have been committed to raising awareness through digital workshops. This partnership with Truecaller takes that commitment further. By learning to identify red flags, equipping themselves with the right tools like Truecaller, and staying informed about emerging scam tactics, seniors can maintain their independence while protecting themselves against fraudsters.”
Truecaller reported that in 2024 alone, it identified and blocked nearly 56 billion unwanted calls. The platform has more than 450 million active users worldwide and has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since October 2021. Founded in Stockholm in 2009, it has recorded over a billion downloads.
Khyaal, launched in 2020 by Hemanshu Jain and Pritish Nelleri, has more than 3 million members. The app offers workshops, games, payment services, travel packages and other resources for users over 50, and also serves as a channel for family members to assist their relatives.
