Ullu removes Ajaz Khan’s reality show ‘House Arrest’ after backlash over explicit content

Streaming platform Ullu has quietly removed the reality series House Arrest, hosted by actor Ajaz Khan, after facing intense public backlash over sexually explicit content and coercive on-camera challenges involving female contestants.

The show, which premiered on April 11, 2025, is no longer available on the platform, although Ullu has issued no official statement.

The takedown comes in the wake of viral video clips that surfaced online recently, drawing sharp criticism from users and political leaders. One clip showed Khan prompting contestants to simulate sexual positions on camera under the guise of a game, while another depicted women being asked to remove their undergarments on camera—acts many condemned as vulgar and exploitative.

According to media reports, an FIR has been registered against Khan and the show’s producer Rajkumar Pandey under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Reports indicated that the complaint was filed by Gautam Ravriya, a Bajrang Dal activist, at the Amboli police station in Mumbai.

NCW slams Ullu for promoting vulgarity

The show, styled as an unfiltered alternative to mainstream reality formats like Bigg Boss, featured 12 contestants—including nine women—confined in a villa and asked to perform various challenges, many of which blurred the lines between reality entertainment and obscenity.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and summoned both Khan and Ullu CEO Vibhu Agarwal to appear before it on May 9.

“Viral clips show women being coerced into intimate acts on camera. NCW slams the platform for promoting vulgarity and violating consent,” the commission posted on X.

The political fallout was swift. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi demanded accountability from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, questioning why Ullu and Alt Balaji were excluded from the government's March 2024 ban on 18 OTT apps found distributing pornographic content.

Maharashtra BJP MLC Chitra Wagh echoed those concerns, calling for an immediate ban on the show. "Stop giving free rein to obscenity in the name of freedom of expression!” Ban Ajaz Khan's show 'House Arrest'," she wrote in a post on X.
