Up To 2 Million Users Affected By The Data Breach At Edtech Startup Edureka

Bangalore-based edtech startup Edureka suffered a data breach, affected almost 2 million users' data on the platform.

Safety Detective, An Antivirus review platform first reported about the situation. It was reported that Edureka's US-based servers are to be operating completely unsecure, which led to the data breach.

On August 1, Safety Detectives security team discovered the vulnerability and found that 27 gigabytes of personal data belonging to 2 million users were leaked, containing 45 million breached records like name, number, email address, etc.

According to the reports, Information such as full name, email address, contact number, Miscellaneous auth token information, login activity records, and other related details were leaked and publicly available until the server was secured.

Further, On August 6, Safety Detectives security team contacted with the Edureka regarding the server vulnerability.

On 13th August, due to failing in getting a response from Edureka, the Safety Detective security team contacted the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and informed about the data breach.

Moreover, Edureka acknowledged the server vulnerability but denied that any personal information of the user was exposed.

The data breach has almost affected Indian users and some in other countries such as the USA as well.

Edureka is a Bangalore-based edtech startup founded in 2011 by Lovleen Bhatia. Edureka is an online learning platform that offers mostly computer-related classes and courses.
