UPI payments giant PhonePe launches insurance for Maha Kumbh Mela attendees

UPI payments giant PhonePe has announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind insurance coverage for travellers attending the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela, held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh from January 13 to February 26, 2025.

PhonePe said the comprehensive insurance plan is available in 2 variants, catering to the needs of a broad spectrum of travellers: Rs 59 per traveller for individuals travelling by train or bus and Rs 99 per traveller for individuals travelling by domestic flights. 

Partnering with ICICI Lombard General Insurance

The Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest spiritual gatherings globally, attracting millions of devotees across all spheres.

For this offering, PhonePe partnered with ICICI Lombard General Insurance to address the specific needs of travellers and provide them with peace of mind and financial security. 

Providing extensive coverage

The launch aims to provide devotees with extensive coverage for various risks, including hospitalization, doctor consultation, outpatient treatment, personal accident cover, loss of checked-in baggage, trip cancellation cover, missed connecting flight cover, and repatriation of remains.

The Bengaluru-based fintech giant said that the users can avail insurance plan on the PhonePe platform until 25th February 2025 and have access to complete coverage for the entire duration of their journey and stay at the Maha Kumbh Mela.
