Volkswagen and Mahindra sign supply agreement

Volkswagen Group and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) have recently signed the first supply agreement for components of Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive (MEB) matrix for Mahindra’s INGLO electric platform.

The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both automotive giants to accelerate e-mobility in India, as per the company's statement.

Supplying electric components

The deal encompasses the supply of electric components and unified cells, a cornerstone of Volkswagen's battery strategy. Mahindra will become the inaugural external partner to utilize Volkswagen's innovative unified cell concept. This agreement, spanning several years, signifies a commitment with a total volume of about 50 GWh over its lifetime.

Electrifying India’s automotive landscape

With the launch of five all-electric SUVs in India starting December 2024, Mahindra aims to capitalize on the country's burgeoning automotive market. India, witnessing over five million new vehicles annually, is on the cusp of an electric revolution in the passenger car segment.

The collaboration seeks to fortify the e-mobility footprint of both Volkswagen and Mahindra in the region.

Strategic partnership and market impact

The partnership, spearheaded by Volkswagen Group Technology and its “Platform Business” unit in close cooperation with Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd., utilizes the MEB platform across various brands including Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, and SEAT/CUPRA, as well as external partners like Ford and Mahindra.
