Billionaire Bhavish Aggarwal recently questioned in a post on X why people in the financial world still use "INR" for the Indian rupee instead of the "₹" symbol.
The Ola Electric CEO shared a picture of a laptop keyboard with the dollar ($) sign above the numerical 4 key, commenting, "Maybe this has something to do with it! I wonder why the $ hasn't been replaced with ₹ in products sold in India."

Within a few hours, Aggarwal's tweet garnered over 1.9 million views, and many people took to the comments section to answer his question.
"The '$' is also an important character in programming languages, such as perl," a user noted.
"Only a person who works on MS Excel know the answer. $ is used to freeze Row or column in excel formulas and ₹ can't do that. That's why $ is used universally for that purpose . However, you can anytime use ₹ in your computer," another explained.
"The use of $ in global formulas has become the norm due to its widespread acceptance, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t advocate for our own ₹. Promoting the Indian currency, ensuring it gets the recognition it deserves in both local and international products," a third remarked.
"Correct bhash Global products default to $, but it’s time to prioritize ₹, especially for Indian users," a fourth expressed.
Much needed, because INR is the most powerful currency in the world*

You can't use ₹ character in programming, while $ is an essential character in many.

While it’s important to consider the significance of local currencies, the global dominance of $ in formulas is more about convenience than disrespect. However, @bhash’s push for ₹ is a timely reminder to give our currency the visibility it deserves, especially in products…
