Google-owned video streaming giant YouTube has rolled out its Premium Lite plan in India, offering users a lower-cost subscription option priced at Rs 89 per month.
According to the company, the new tier allows viewers to watch most videos ad-free across phones, laptops, and TVs. Unlike the full YouTube Premium service, Premium Lite comes with limitations. Ads will still appear on YouTube Shorts, music content, and during searches or browsing.
For uninterrupted music streaming, offline downloads, and background play, users will still need to subscribe to the standard Premium plan, which costs Rs 149 per month. The platform also offers two other monthly subscription options, including a family membership and a two-person membership, which cost Rs 299 and Rs 219, respectively.
The launch in India marks an expansion of YouTube’s ongoing Premium Lite pilot, which has been tested in select markets. The company said the new plan is designed to provide “a more affordable way” for users to enjoy content with fewer interruptions, while still generating additional revenue opportunities for creators and partners.
YouTube added that YouTube Music and Premium now have over 125 million subscribers globally, including trial users, and the Lite plan aims to give Indian viewers more flexibility in how they consume content. Full availability across the country is expected in the coming weeks.
