10-minute grocery delivery startup Zepto has reportedly finalised and signed a lease agreement to convert Total Mall in Sarjapur into its office space in Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India, according to a Moneycontrol report.
The Sarjapur Road is home to corporate giants such as Walmart, Adobe, and Rubrik, along with Zepto's industry peers, including Swiggy and Flipkart.
Employees to relocate to Bengaluru
The report said that the quick commerce giant has extended its relocation deadline by a few months, instructing employees to move to Bengaluru by February 2025.
Earlier, the startup had set a deadline for all employees to relocate from Powai, Mumbai, to Sarjapur, Bengaluru, by November. However, the timeline was later extended as finding the apt office location took longer than initially anticipated.
Zepto begins moving some roles
Zepto has begun moving some roles into an adhoc office in the city, where operations will begin around November 11.
While Zepto’s business operations are based in Mumbai, its tech and product teams are already working from Bengaluru. By February, all key departments will be centralized in the new Bengaluru office, the report noted.
Estimated cost for relocation to Bengaluru
The estimated cost of relocating Zepto's headquarters from Mumbai to Bengaluru is projected to be around Rs 3-4 crore as a one-time expense, the report said.
However, the Aadit Palicha-led company expects to offset this cost by saving approximately Rs 40-50 lakh in monthly rent due to the move from Mumbai to Bengaluru.
Of Zepto’s 1,700-1,800 employees, around 1,000 are currently based in Mumbai, 400 in Bengaluru, and the remaining 300 are distributed across various regions for city operations.
Notably, approximately 90% of the Mumbai-based employees are already prepared to relocate to Bengaluru, Karnataka, the report added.
