French sporting giant Decathlon's India unit Decathlon India has partnered with Zepto, a quick-commerce unicorn that promises to deliver grocery items in 10 minutes.
Decathlon's latest association is aimed at leveraging the existing market presence of the Aadit Palicha-led startup to make sporting goods more accessible across the country.
Delivering in 16 prominent cities
As part of the partnership, customers in 16 major cities, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Chennai, and Hyderabad, can now purchase a wide range of Decathlon’s sports equipment via Zepto’s online platform.
The partnership aims to meet the growing demand for sports and fitness products by providing quicker delivery options for customers seeking to enhance their active lifestyles.
“We are excited to collaborate with Zepto to bring greater access to a wide range of sports products for our fellow Indians. As the demand for an active lifestyle in the country continues to grow, we are committed to being part of this journey," said Decathlon India CEO Sankar Chatterjee.
Offering a wide range of products
Decathlon will offer a variety of sporting goods on Zepto, covering categories such as fitness, outdoor activities, water sports, team sports and more.
"Whether it's qualitative sport equipment, high-performance running shoes, or versatile yoga mats, Decathlon's assortment of sports products on Zepto ensures customers have quick and easy access to the gear they need to pursue their active lifestyles," the company said.
"We are thrilled about Decathlon being a part of the Zepto family, and I thank our sellers for having enabled this. We believe in promoting an active lifestyle and are excited about the opportunity to work with our sellers to make fitness products more accessible to millions of Indians," CEO Palicha said.
Planning to invest Rs 933 crore in India
In addition to its partnership with Zepto, Decathlon recently revealed plans to invest Rs 933 crore in India over the next five years. The French company aims to expand its store network from 127 to 190 locations and increase its focus on digital engagement.
Currently, 68% of Decathlon’s products sold in India are manufactured locally, with the goal of raising that figure to 85% by 2026.
