Eternal CEO Deepinder Goyal and Aditya Mangla
Eternal, the parent company of online food delivery platform Zomato, has appointed Aditya Mangla as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of its food ordering and delivery business. The company confirmed the appointment through a regulatory filing on Sunday, noting that the board approved the decision on July 6 for a two-year term.
Mangla, who joined Zomato in March 2021, will succeed Rakesh Ranjan, whose two-year tenure as food delivery CEO ended on July 6. Ranjan will continue to be associated with the company in a different capacity, though he no longer holds the designation of senior management personnel (SMP).
Mangla has played several key roles within Zomato’s food delivery operations, including stints as head of supply and head of customer experience. Most recently, he served as head of product for the food delivery vertical and was also chief of staff to founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal.
Mangla’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for Zomato’s core food delivery business, which has recently seen a slowdown in growth. For the quarters ending December 2024 and March 2025, the segment’s year-on-year growth dipped below 20%, a trend that Swiggy has also seen. In the January–March quarter, Zomato reported gross order value (GOV) of Rs 9,778 crore in the food delivery segment, marking a 16% annual increase but a 1% sequential decline.
Goyal, who had assumed direct oversight of the food delivery business following Ranjan’s departure in April, announced Mangla’s appointment in an internal note to employees.
“This isn’t just a change of roles. It’s a signal for the kind of leadership we need as we move into our next chapter,” he wrote.
“We need leaders and teams who can navigate complexity with decisiveness and humility. Leaders who can move fast but stay thoughtful. And who carry the courage to make decisions even when the outcomes are uncertain, and have the strength to stand by them or change their minds when needed.”
Profile of a rising leader
Mangla holds a master’s degree in Information Networking from Carnegie Mellon University and a PGP in Management from the Indian School of Business, where he received the Torchbearer Award. He also has an undergraduate engineering degree in IT from Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology. Before joining Zomato, Mangla worked across product, marketing, and P&L roles in various startups and technology-driven companies.
According to the company’s regulatory disclosures, Mangla has been designated as both the CEO of the food ordering and delivery business and a senior management personnel (SMP).
