Delivery partners working with major platforms including Zomato, Swiggy, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon and Flipkart have announced a nationwide strike on December 31, 2025, renewing pressure over same set of demands.
The proposed strike follows a similar nationwide protest held on Christmas Day, December 25, when nearly 40,000 delivery workers participated, disrupting an estimated 50-60% of deliveries in several cities.
Worker groups said the renewed action is aimed at intensifying their campaign as conditions in the gig economy continue to worsen.
The December 31 protest has been called by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union in coordination with the Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers.
“All-India strike today was just the trailer. Picture abhi baaki hai – 31 Dec, 2025,” the union wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Delivery partners from metro cities as well as major tier-2 cities are expected to take part.
Union leaders said that despite rising demand for rapid and instant deliveries, workers continue to face declining earnings, unstable working conditions and a lack of basic protections. The strike is centred on demands for fair wages, improved safety, dignity at work and access to social security for gig workers.
During the Christmas Day strike, unions alleged that platform companies attempted to dilute the protest by deploying third-party delivery agencies, offering temporary incentives and reactivating inactive delivery IDs instead of addressing core concerns. They also accused platforms of using ID blocking, threats and algorithmic penalties against workers who joined the protest.
“Delivery workers are not slaves of algorithms,” the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union said in a statement, adding that workers oppose unsafe 10 minute-delivery model, arbitrary account deactivations and the continued absence of social security.
The union warned that failure to address these issues could lead to stronger collective action in the future.
“Shaik Salauddin Founder President @TGPWU and National General Secretary @Connect_IFAT reiterate their demand for fair wages, safe working conditions, protection from arbitrary ID blocking, social security, and recognition of workers’ right to organise. We meet 31st December, 2025,” the Union added.

Netizens show support
Several people across the country have voiced support for the delivery partners’ demands, expressing solidarity with their call for fair wages, safer working conditions and social security.
In fact, many also questioned the necessity of 10-minute delivery services, arguing that ultra-fast delivery models place undue pressure on workers and compromise their safety, while offering little real benefit to consumers.
“Fast delivery of every product is not required. Saman 10 min ke jagah 30 me aayega to bhi koi problem nahi but safety of riders and other people on road is of highest priority,” a user wrote.
“It's fine by the consumers that if the delivery late. Listen to the consumers as well , dont put their lives at risk,” another wrote while tagging Zomato and Swiggy.
“Good job guys keep it up,” another user noted.
