Hyderabad recently inaugurated the Healthway Cycling Track, a 23-kilometer route along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), marking it as India's first cycling track with a solar roof, to promote eco-friendly transportation and sustainable energy practices.
The track is adorned with 16,000 solar panels with the capability of generating a notable 16 megawatts of electricity, which can power numerous streetlights and illuminate extensive stretches of city streets.
The Healthway Cycling Track, divided into two stretches from TSPA to Nanakramguda and Narsingi to Kollur, is not only beneficial for cycling but it is also a symbol of innovative energy use with its 16,000 solar panels installed on the roof.
The track provides cyclists access to a range of amenities, including parking, food stalls, repair shops, rental stations, and first aid stations, at five access points, allowing entry from Narsingi, Kollur, TSPA, Vattinagulapalli, and Nanakramguda.
The solar panel investment is anticipated to be recovered in six years, positioning the project to be financially self-sustaining within 15 years, while also reducing carbon emissions.
