Ather Energy goes international; to launch its electric scooter 450X in Nepal

Indian EV maker Ather Energy, which battles with Bhavish Aggarwal's Ola Electric, is all set to make its first international presence. The company has partnered with Vaidya Energy to introduce its flagship electric scooter, the 450X, in Nepal.

Ather plans to launch its Experience Center in Nepal

Ather Energy said it plans to open its Experience Centre in Kathmandu this November, marking its first retail expansion outside of India.

The development comes after Ather Energy raised Rs 900 crore in funding from its existing investor Hero MotoCorp and Singapore-based GIC via a rights issue. It was reported that Zerodha's Nikhil Kamath is also investing in Ather Energy.

Ather Energy, one of India's prominent EV manufacturers, claims to have a 75% market share in the Indian premium electric two-wheeler segment. 

To support its operations in Nepal, the company will export its Ather 450X model, which is now available with two battery options (2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh) and features like ParkAssist, AutoHold, FallSafe, a 7-inch TFT touchscreen with Google Maps integration, a top speed of 90 km/hr, and a certified range of 146 km.

Fostering a sustainable electric vehicle ecosystem in Nepal

According to the company's statement, The partnership aims to redefine Nepal’s electric two-wheeler market by enhancing the accessibility of high-performance EVs for Nepalese consumers. 

Vaidya Energy will facilitate the sales and service of Ather products in Nepal, ensuring that the company’s philosophy of creating a favourable ecosystem for a smooth transition to EVs is maintained. Furthermore, The Nepal-based company will establish fast-charging stations 'Ather Grids' to mitigate range anxiety among users.

Ravneet Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather, said, “Ather has pioneered the electric scooter segment in India and while we continue growing domestically, we are really excited about expanding our business footprint to international markets. We have had incredible in-bound demand from multiple markets, and Nepal is the first step in our journey of going international."

Why did Ather Energy partner with Vaidya Energy?

Ravneet said Ather Energy see Nepal’s automobile market as a microcosm of the rising global consciousness over switching to cleaner mobility choices. He further said that the company will also roll out public fast-charging infrastructure in the country.
