Meta begins rolling out ChatGPT rival Meta AI to users in India

Social media giant Meta is finally rolling out its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, Meta AI, to Indian users.

Unlike other AI assistants, like ChatGPT, which requires users to install a separate app, Meta AI will be available in English on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

This AI assistant can handle daily tasks such as writing emails, summarizing texts, and translations. It also allows users to generate text and images, create animations, and interact directly with the chatbot.

Interstingly, Meta AI also provides real-time information powered by Google and Microsoft's Bing, making it a versatile tool for users.

How is Meta AI being rolled out in India?

The rollout of Meta AI in India appears to be gradual. Although Meta announced that the AI would be available starting today, the main website for Meta AI indicates that it is not yet available in all regions. This suggests that the AI assistant may be rolled out to users in a phased manner.

Previously, Meta AI had been introduced in more than 12 countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

What can users expect from Meta AI?

Meta AI offers various functionalities to enhance user experience. Users can interact with Meta AI directly or within their personal and group chats on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. The AI assistant can provide recommendations, answer questions, and help with content creation.

For instance, users can ask Meta AI to "imagine" an aesthetic for a new apartment or create a mood board with AI-generated images. Meta AI is also integrated into the search bar of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, allowing users to access it while scrolling through their feeds.

How does Meta AI compare with other AI assistants?

The introduction of Meta AI in India comes a week after Google launched the mobile app of Gemini, its AI assistant, in the Indian market..

Notably, Gemini supports multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, and offers features such as planning events and creating social media captions.
