Technology giant Microsoft, which is battling with Google in AI, has unveiled Microsoft Copilot, an AI companion, at a major event in New York.

Microsoft said the new AI companion aims to transform user interaction with technology and boost productivity, integrating seamlessly across Windows 11, Microsoft 365, Edge, and Bing.

Microsoft Copilot combining AI capabilities

It is designed to incorporate the intelligence of the web, work data, and user activities on the PC to provide enhanced assistance, with a strong emphasis on user privacy and security.

This AI companion is accessible in Windows 11, Microsoft 365, and via the Edge browser and Bing, available freely as an app or can be activated with a right click.

Features and integration

Microsoft Copilot offers a plethora of features, including integration with Windows 11, enabling users to complete tasks with ease and create faster.

It lessens cognitive load, simplifying once-complicated tasks. The integration includes new Outlook for Windows, AI-enhanced capabilities in Paint and Photos, improved Clipchamp, modernized File Explorer, and new natural voices in Narrator to enhance accessibility and productivity.

Enhanced user experience in Bing and Edge

Microsoft Copilot extends its features to Bing and Edge, offering personalized answers generated based on chat history and an improved DALL.E 3 model from OpenAI in Bing Image Creator.

It also introduces new Content Credentials, which use cryptographic methods to add an invisible digital watermark to all AI-generated images in Bing, including the time and date it was originally created.

Providing tailored recommendations and shopping experience

In Microsoft Shopping, Bing and Edge can now provide more tailored recommendations and the best price based on user requests, powered by AI. Users will soon also be able to use a photo or saved image as the starting point for shopping.

Enterprise and Consumer Integration

Microsoft 365 Copilot will be available for enterprise customers from November 1, 2023, and will also be integrated with Microsoft 365 Copilot for personal users, starting with Word. It helps transform text-heavy documents with custom graphics and create stunning visuals, social media posts, invitations, and more using cutting-edge AI.

Microsoft's new Surface device

Microsoft said it is also launching new Surface devices, including the Surface Laptop Studio 2, the Surface Laptop Go 3, Surface Go 4 for Business, and Surface Hub 3, all equipped with the latest AI innovations for people and businesses.
