Indian technology giant, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), recently announced it will revamp the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL)'s decades-old unemployment platform.
TCS said it aims to replace the existing 1980s-era legacy system with a robust, agile, and scalable cloud-based unemployment insurance system, ensuring streamlined claims processing and timely financial assistance for eligible individuals.
Georgia witnessed a surge in unemployment claims
Georgia noticed the need for a modernized system during the pandemic when it witnessed an unparalleled surge in unemployment claims, ranking it the third highest in the nation.
“Modernizing Georgia’s 80s-era unemployment system represents the dynamic fusion between efficiency and innovation,” said Bruce Thompson, Commissioner, Georgia Department of Labor.
Brude said that a modern and responsive unemployment system minimizes claims processing times, enhances the customer experience and helps in preventing fraud.
How will it benefit Georgians?
TCS said the new web-based platform, which will be designed with a focus on user-friendliness, will simplify the process for Georgians applying for unemployment insurance benefits.
It will allow users to securely upload documents, check claim statuses, and receive vital updates with ease.
The digitization of processes and incorporation of automated workflows are expected to expedite claim processing and minimize errors. Moreover, the platform will be fortified with advanced security features aimed at preventing fraud, safeguarding taxpayer dollars, and ensuring that benefits are disbursed to genuinely needy individuals.
“We are pleased to partner with the Georgia Department of Labor in their digital transformation journey to create a new seamless and secure unemployment system that will meet the evolving needs of claimants and employers, streamline claims processing, reduce errors, prevent fraud, and improve the overall user experience," said Robert Kane, Chief Commercial Officer, U.S. Public Services, TCS.
Why did Georgia choose TCS to modernize its unemployment claims system?
Over the past two decades, TCS has established itself as a leader in transforming legacy unemployment insurance systems, collaborating with various states including Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, and Wyoming on their transformation journeys.
During the pandemic, TCS assisted several states in managing a substantial increase in unemployment claims and integrated the Federal Government’s Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
