Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during her fourth budget announcement, said the government will be establishing a Digital University to provide education that will be built on a hub and spoke model.
She also said that the center will be implementing a '1-class-1-TV' channel to provide supplementary education to children to make up for the loss of formal education due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Apart from this, FM Sitharaman announced the expansion of SWAYAM PRABHA TV under PM eVidya Scheme from 12 channels to 200 channels to facilitate supplementary learning in regional languages for all 1 to 12 class students.
“A digital university will be established to provide access to students across the country for world-class quality universal education with a personalized learning experience at their doorsteps. This will be made available in different Indian languages…the university will be built on a network hub and spoke model. The best public institutions in the country will collaborate as a network of hub and spoke,” FM Sitharaman said.
New skill development courses will also be introduced in the state ITIs to enable the youth of the country, she informed.
PM eVidya is a venture started by the Ministry of Education to facilitate multi-mode access to digital/online teaching-learning contents of various types among students and teachers. "For skilling, upskilling, and reskilling of our youth, Digital DESH e-portal will be launched," She said during the budget announcement.
The FM also announced that five Centres of Excellence (COE) will be set up with an endowment fund of Rs 250 crore each for Urban Planning courses that would assist in Urban Sector Development. The center will also encourage and support Academic Institutes for Research and Development within the ambit of Defence Budget, she adds.
