The Indian government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has appointed Chief Operating Officer Vibhor Jain as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, bringing an end to the temporary leadership model managed by its eight-member Executive Committee.
The transition follows founding CEO Thampy Koshy's decision to step down, announced in April 2025; his final working day is scheduled for June 2025, after roughly three years at the helm.
Jain, who now holds full executive authority, is also a member of ONDC's Executive Committee and has played a key role in shaping the network's operational structure since its inception. His appointment comes at a time when ONDC is navigating several strategic decisions and expanding its national footprint as a public digital-infrastructure initiative under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
Leadership comments
"The Executive Committee has done a commendable job of guiding ONDC during a critical phase of its journey.,” said Suresh Sethi, ONDC Board Member.
“Vibhor has played a pivotal role in shaping ONDC’s operational framework, and the Board has full confidence in his ability to lead the organisation during this important transition," Sethi added.
Jain, in his first remarks as Acting CEO, said, "It is an honour to take on this responsibility at a time when ONDC is expanding its footprint and impact across the country. I am committed to working closely with the Board, stakeholders, and the broader ecosystem to ensure continuity and momentum as we deliver on our mission to democratise digital commerce in India.”
Board Member Jaxay Shah added, “As Vibhor steps into the role of Acting CEO, the Board is confident in his ability to lead with clarity and purpose. His deep experience and unwavering commitment to ONDC’s mission make him well-suited to guide the organisation forward as we continue to build an inclusive and open digital commerce ecosystem. We also acknowledge the Executive Committee for helping ensure continuity during the recent transition period.”
Since its operational launch, ONDC has recorded over 200 million transactions, with the last 100 million completed in just six months.
