Meta's messaging platform, WhatsApp, is targeting counterfeit apps that allowed users to operate two WhatsApp accounts on a single mobile phone.
The company, after recently launching the 'Channels' feature in India, has now introduced a dual account login feature, which allows users to log into two WhatsApp accounts on one phone within the app.
Switching between two accounts
In a Facebook post, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that now users on WhatsApp can switch between two accounts.
“Now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones, or worry about messaging from the wrong place,” said Mark Zuckerberg.
"Today, we’re introducing the ability to have two WhatsApp accounts logged in at the same time. Helpful for switching between accounts – such as your work and personal – now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones or worry about messaging from the wrong place," the company said in a blog post.
How to set up a second WhatsApp account?
The newly launched feature, set to roll out in the coming weeks, will simplify managing conversations across multiple accounts. This is especially beneficial for those who use one WhatsApp account for work and another for personal interactions with friends and family.
To set up a second account, you will need a second phone number and SIM card, or a phone that accepts multi-SIM or eSIM.
Simply open your WhatsApp settings, click on the arrow next to your name, and click “Add account”. You can control your privacy and notification settings on each account.
